100 years ago - May 18, 1911
Lannonite Thomas Walsh, born in 1825, has
died at age 85 on May 20.
Clark University is offering a $100 award
to any Wisconsinite who sights a passenger
pigeon and notifies the university of its
whereabouts. It has been 40 years since a
million of the birds were used in the U.S.,
but it is now feared they are extinct.
50 years ago - May 18, 1961
St. James Catholic Church is building a
new sanctuary that will seat 600. Meanwhile
six classrooms are being added to the St.
James grade school. Rev. Francis A. Finnegan
is the past of the church that organized in
1846.
Keith Gissal is the Lannon Civil Defense
Director.
The Sussex Lions Club will hold its
annual May Day dance at the Sussex Community
Hall.
Elaine Podolske and Phyllis Stier
received $10 scholarships to attend Camp
Webb summer camp.
25 years ago - May 18, 1986
Thirteen-year Hamilton Athletic Director
Ken Ohrmunt has retired and Jerry Key of
Barneveld will replace him.
The Hamilton junior prom will be held at
Marchese's Danceland. Prom Queen is Beth
Kraeft and King is Dan Heckman.
Because of declining enrollment, eight
Hamilton School District teachers were laid
off which includes 6 ½ at the high school.

Vandals threw rocks through eight windows
at Hamilton High School on a Sunday night.
The decision to move longtime Hamilton
band director Karen Moniza from the high
school to Templeton Middle School has upset
some parents and members of the band.
After winning the Metro Conference track
and field relays, the girls track team won
the New Berlin Eisenhower. The coach is
Jerry Wetherall.
Five years ago - May 18, 2006
Ian Hansen of Lisbon has earned the rank
of Eagle Scout.
Highway 164 is being widened from Sussex
Main Street to Howard Lane in Lisbon.
Michael Reed has resigned from the Lisbon
Plan Commission in protest of the project.
The Sussex Fire Department has raised its
ambulance fee for Sussex residents from $300
to $400.
