Berschens, Schroeder & Co. in Lannon leased the Lake Shore Stone Co. building to house its flour and feed store, which will also sell dynamite and other explosives, as a side business for its general store in Lannon.

German-born quarry worker Frederick Schultz of Lannon, 86, passed away.

Rudy Kerstein was rewarded for 28 years of safe driving as a Sussex rural mail carrier. He actually deserved it for 43 years, but the post office's safe-driving records only went back 28 years then.

25 years ago - 1983

Randall Schuldt ran against incumbent Sally Droese for the Sussex seat on the Hamilton School Board.

Sussex made David Anderson its village administrator.

Snows and rains since April Fool's Day flooded basements on Champeny Drive, Park Court and Sumac Lane.

10 years ago - 1998

Elliott Knapp found a nearly 2-foot-long snapping turtle in his Vista Lane yard.

Hamilton named Brad Kasprzak, Jenny Engel, Kevan Guetzke, Russ Rautkowski, Tia Janssen, Susan Golner, Katie Lembke, Stephanie Kendziorski, Heather Fender, Sherman Traylor, Marc Dobberstien, Lindsay Cain and Melissa and Michael Schweinert its scholar-athletes of the year.

5 years ago - 2003

Margaret Hoffman (nee Butler), 84, died. She arrived in Lisbon with its second wave of immigration from Germany in the 1880s. She taught at Lisbon Plank School, Nelson School off Town Line Road and Merton Grade School.
