Steve Meisner is a multi-talented musician, composer & arranger. He began playing the accordion at the age of 5 and has been earning a living in the music business since the age of 16. Steve's family has a rich musical heritage and he is a second-generation full time working musician. His father, the late Verne Meisner, had a successful music career for over 50 years. Steve’s brand of music is extremely versatile and appealing to a wide audience. He has made a name for himself by taking the music he grew up with from his father and adding his own imagination and feeling. He has brought his brand of traditional American polka into the 21st century with a fresh spark & swing while retaining the roots of this music. From a young age, Steve has been on task to promote quality music that can be accepted by all ages. His main goal has been to persuade the general public's stereotypical view of polka music to bring a new awareness to the masses. In Steve's long musical career he has performed with the nation’s top accordionists, polka icons & musicians including Myron Floren, Frank Yankovic, Joey Miskulin, & Verne Meisner. He has performed nationally coast to coast and internationally averaging 200 performances. Steve has received numerous awards and nominations including "Musician and Band of the Year", "Favorite Polka Artist", “Lifetime Achievement award” by the Maryland Accordion Club, resides as the 29th inductee to the Ironworld Polka Hall of Fame, and in 2005 an “Honor Roll” induction in the Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame. His original compositions are included on many best selling polka recordings and have even received Grammy nominations.

At a time when interest in Cleveland-Style Polkas was flagging, John Gayer came on the scene. Founding Delta International Records in 1961 and playing an important role in reviving the business. Signing scores of top artists, including Johnny Pecon, Frank Novak, Eddie Rodick, Milan Racanovic, Georgie Cook, Frankie Kramer, Hank Haller, The Almars and Richie Vadnal. Gayer emphasized quality as he shaped Delta Records into the quintessential polka label of the 1960s and ‘70s. Delta Records released 52 singles, 42 lp’s and 1 cd providing the Cleveland-Style market with first-class product, distribution and marketing support as well. With great recordings from Vlad Malekar’s Audio Recording Studios. John Gayer owned also the DelGay International Music Publishers.

    Yesterday's Memories

Now...what you have to remember about some of the Wisconsin record label names, is that some are used elsewhere, either with different graphics and/or with naming variations. So if you're thinking about collecting some "vinyl" be such to check the labels and album back covers. A number of Wisconsin musicians/bands also recorded with studios outside of Wisconsin, so be sure you know what you want to collect!

Also note-worthy is that many record labels have variations in themselves. "Blue Eagle" from Sussex has several, as does "New Phoenix" from Hartland. One of the most prolific Wisconsin labels is "Cuca" out of Sauk City. Besides variations on their main label, they produced many sub-labels, like "Sara".
