From Fred H. Keller's "Rose Miller Gissal built two businesses on her cooking", Retrospect, Sussex Sun, October, 17, 2007". - When Fred and Rose, nee Miller, Gissal sold their Willow Springs Tavern, they bought the larger Lake Five Tavern in 1944. They sold their former business in 1946 to Charles Basche. They operated Lake Five Tap until 1956, but after a temporary retirement, they purchased a new business in Fussville which they called Gissal's Beverage Mart, operating that until 1965 when the State paid them big bucks for it to widen the Appleton Avenue/Good Hope Road crossroads.

Fined for 0/eo Sale

SUSSEX — Fred Gissal of Gissal's Lake "5" resort, Colgate route 1, was fined $100 for serving colored untaxed oleomargarine to restaurant patrons in the county court at Hartford Oct. 17. He entered a plea of guilty.

Boyd W. ‘Bill’ Biswell

Boyd W. Biswell of Colgate (Lake Five). Born July 11, 1947. Passed away Oct. 21, 2008, of cancer at the age of 61 years. Beloved husband and best friend of Rosemary (nee Samanske) Biswell for 43 years. Loving father and hero to Wesley (Ann), Julie (Mike) Batzler and Jessica (Jake) Knox. Proud and loving grandfather of Brianna, Bradley, Jackson, Michael, Joshua and Matthew. Beloved son to the late Boyd and Irene Biswell of Claremore, Okla. Brother of Corene (Ivan) Knopp of Phoenix, Ariz. and the late Robert Biswell of Claremore, Okla. Dear son-in-law to Irene Stedman. Brother-in-law to Ronald (Virginia) Samanske, Donna (Harry) Demlang, Bonnie (Dennis) Ruffing, Joanie Wendler and Cheryl (Dan) Plese.

Bill was the proud owner and operator of the Roadside Inn in Lake Five from 1974-2005 and an avid race fan. He was past treasurer and member of the Tavern League of Washington County and the Tavern League of Wisconsin. He was also past treasurer of the Wisconsin Street Rod Association.

A special thanks to Josh Knox P.A. of Froedtert Hospital, Palliative Care Team at Froedtert Hospital and Horizon Hospice.

Visitation and funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 24, at the funeral home. Burial was held Saturday, Oct. 25, at St. Columba’s Cemetery.

(Nee Thorson) Of Sussex , March 10, 2010, age 86 years. Beloved wife of the late Paul Samanske and the late Kenneth Stedman.

Loving mother of Ronald (Ginny) Samanske, Rosemary (Late Bill) Biswell, Donna (Harry) Demlang, Bonnie (Dennis) Ruffing, Joanie Wendler and Cheryl (Dan) Plese.

Further survived by other relatives and friends. Further survived by 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 13, at 11:30 AM, at ST. JAMES HISTORIC CHAPEL, W220 N6588 Town Line Rd., Menomonee Falls. Burial Church Cemetery. Visitation Saturday 9:00 AM until time of the Mass AT THE HISTORIC CHAPEL.

Memorials to the church appreciated.
Irene was a true entrepreneur founding Irene's Frosty Shop, Hobby Acres Ceramics, Good Hope Manor and a partnership in the Roadside Inn . She made all of her children's wedding cakes and many, many others.

All that knew her will dearly miss her.
