Notes for HENRY TEMPERO:

Also connected with this family, I've [Lesley Margaret Instone] come across a reference in a database of Wisconsin Land Records (on ancestry. COM) to land purchases by Thomas Tempero at the Milwaukee Land Office in 1844, 1848 and 1859, and by Charles Tempero in the same Land Office in 1850, and also by a Henry Tempero in the Hudson Land Office in May 1859.

There is a family story that Henry Tempero, who emigrated with his wife and family from England to New Zealand in 1870 , had visited his uncles in Wisconsin some years earlier and had purchased land while out there but somehow lost it. This record would seem to substantiate this story which we had all thought had no real basis in fact.

Henry owned property in Chippewa County, Wisconsin in 1859. Ancestry.com

He returned to England as Lesley says above because he's in the 1861 Oxfordshire, England census along with his father Henry Sr. [Mike Reilly 2/16/2006]
